Can You Lose Weight Without Exercising?

If you’re a member of the popular weight-loss organization Slimming World, you’ll have noticed that exercise isn’t among their recommended weight loss methods. Their motto states that Slimming World isn’t about losing weight; it’s about changing your attitude toward food and exercise… Despite this, many people wonder if it’s possible to lose weight in Slimming World without training. The answer lies in the way the program works…

Going back to basics

Yes, exercise is essential for weight loss, but you don’t have to go overboard with marathon training or five-mile power walks. Your body doesn’t need a high level of physical exertion to lose weight (or any other health benefits, for that matter). Adding one or two workouts a week will suffice. Why exercise is important

Exercise will increase your metabolism, which will help you burn more calories throughout your day. Exercise also promotes muscle growth and overall wellness. It’s important to remember that exercising does not mean eating whatever you want—it just means working out a little more than usual. If you’re trying to lose weight, aim for at least 30 minutes of exercise a day. For example, if you usually walk three miles per day, try walking four or five miles one or two days per week. In addition to promoting physical health, exercise can help keep your mind healthy; studies have shown that people who work out regularly have a higher cognitive function in their later years than those who don’t hit the gym as often.

Exercise doesn’t have to be boring.

If you are trying to lose weight, it is vital that you watch what you eat and exercise regularly. But have no fear, exercise doesn’t need to be boring or involve hours spent at a gym. Below we outline some of our favorite ways to stay active without joining a gym.

Starting with what you can do

Yes, you can lose weight without exercising. And while a healthy diet is vital to shedding those extra pounds, so is moving more throughout your day—whether that’s walking during your lunch break or doing some household chores in the evening instead of sitting on the couch and watching TV. Making minor adjustments like these will add overtime to an active lifestyle and help you lose weight with or without exercise.

What if I want more help?

There are plenty of Slimming World Groups around, and if you want even more online and offline support, there’s a range of options, including face-to-face meetings, telephone calls with your coach or group members, or extra food packs. There’s also additional coaching to help you stay on track after you reach your target weight. Ask about these when you join.

Tips for getting started

While you don’t need to dedicate hours of your day to exercise to lose weight, you need some movement to build muscle and keep from losing bone density (which can happen if you become a couch potato). Start small by parking further away from work or walking up a flight of stairs instead of taking an elevator.
